My other car is an BMW X3 m40d so we thought we were just used to the power at first but we got a second opinion and he said deffo something wrong, It doesn’t do more than 10mph in 1st and most of the time doesn’t even rev up to 3000, you’re lucky to see 60 in it but will do it if you’re going straight long enough.
It’s so far had a full service, new timing belt, new throttle cable, tried adjusting the turbo and fuel pump etc, by the looks of it on here, it’s possible the timing can move even when locked into place?? X
Thanks for the help
It is possible for the timing to move on a new belt - one if the pulleys is made of a soft sintered metal that can wear and fall off - though the van will sound rough at idle if this is the case. If so, don't drive it, even a half mile to the garage. Get it towed to a garage.
Blocked air filter can make things sluggish, but it tends to be intermittent - accompanied by some black smoke from the exhaust.
Could it be a stretched throttle cable, or other mechanical issue in that area?
As Hybrid above notes, if you give us some additional clues, especially sounds etc, it might help!
We’ve had a garage look at it the timings fine, the throttle cables been done and adjusted everything else.. the last thing we can pinpoint is maybe the gearbox, it’s very very stiff, maybe going and the ratios out?? The only thing we can now think off
I’ve recently become the happy owner of a ex-RAC VW T5.1 now converted to a camper!
This will be my daily driver as well as the van that hopefully takes us on many adventures...

Hi. I'm assuming that new members are not uncommon on here. I have been on other forums (mostly motorbike related) and have seen people come and go.
I'm going through my 2nd midlife crisis but am going to make this one a little more sedate than the last! I have always hankered for a VW Camper...
No prizes for guessing my home town, sorry :P
I used to work at a local van supplier selling commercial vehicles. Now I work at a VW van seller and I got to say I notice many differences, friendliness is one of them, so this is me saying a big "hello" to the forum here.
I'm hoping to learn...
