What Abyss said. The maplins regulators are a bit low for telly's etc. If you're going to use a regulator, you may as well buy a solar regulator. It will do the same job, but better. (For instance, it will cut the supply to the telly if the battery is too low to prevent damaging the battery). You can pick a 10a regulator on eBay for less than the 5a one you're looking at. All you need do is connect the battery & the load and ignore the solar connections. It will still work as it would do when it's dark. Then, when you take the plunge & stick a solar panel on the roof, you'll be halfway there :)

Cheers guys.

I was looking at it to protect a couple of sets of LED lights from voltage spikes and potentially a second regulator later on for an LCD monitor or similar (not worked out what is sustainable power draw from leisure battery yet)

So you think a solar charger regulator could protect the whole van entertainment system in one?

Might just have to go back to the simple route of one 1A regulator per set of LED's and heat sink it if getting near the 1A limit continuously
