Hi All,

So, the head gasket has gone on my 1997 2.4 T4 has gone and I'm weighing up my options.
1. Get the garage to do it, quoted circa £1000+ inc head skim. Is that the right sort of cost?
2. Do it myself. Should be able to, with a manual and of course forum help :), but there any pitfalls or special tools required?

While I'm doing the head, what else should I consider doing at the same time ie Timing belt and kit, waterpump, lapping valves or valve stem seals etc.

Any advice greatfully recieved.

Cheers,

Phil.

If you feel confident, do it yourself and save the labour costs. No special tools required although some do like to use the locking tool kit. Just change the gasket for a 3 notch and do the belts and tensior. Change the water pump aswell while it's in bits.
