Now theres so much info out there about this fantastic mod, please add your facts and figures below to help showcase improvements that adding a turbo to 2.4 offers.

If possible please add the following (and keep the chitchat to a minimum if that's ok Rasp:)

1. Pic of engine bay
2. Kit used (acv, Volvo, other etc)
3. Intercooler fitted Y/N inc type fitted.
4. Power output (rolling road proof or guestimate)
5. Any other additions or future plans?

98 AJA with ACV Manifolds and turbo
No intercooler

Guestimate of 90bhp?

  • 98 AJA 2.4D with a 16mm oil cooler feed pipe (BEWARE there are two sizes 12mm and 16mm)
  • 2.5TDI ACV Manifolds and turbo
  • L200 inter cooler (Top Mounted)
  • Running 1.0 Bar
  • Power? yep I have Power enough and defo higher than standard.
  • Plans for future mods - Yup just ordered Rakes PP3 injectors :)

Mine was a professional install which was done in Germany in 2005. Turbo was changed when the van was imported in 2011. The van is a 1991 2.4 Westfalia.

Don't know. Work was done in Germany in 2005.

No.

4. Power output (rolling road proof or guestimate)

German documentation indicates turbo is running at 0.65 bar, giving around 90hp.

5. Any other additions or future plans?

The gearbox does not look standard. It's pulling 3000rpm at 60mph, which seems to high. I don't know if the gearbox was changed because of the turbo, or because the van has spent most of it's time in the Bavarian Alps.

It's has an oil cooler fitted.

Fuel economy isn't great, around 30-32mpg, but then it is a heavy, double glazed Westy.

I'm planning on changing the hose from the air filter to turbo to a silicon one. The current one is porous, can't be a good idea? Also thinking of adding a catch can to the breather breather pipe. I don't have a great deal of mechanical knowledge, is this a good idea?

Cone filter
Front mounted BMW 3 series intercooler
Full pp tuning stainless exhaust
Manual boost controller set at 0.9 bar
Standard fuel pump (LDA on the cards)
Last rolling road session gave 127.2 bhp and 204 pound foot torque

Here is Nobby, who has just got himself a Turbo.

Removed the cylinder head, to de-coke and make the job easier, new valves fitted.

Turbo fitted, PP3 Injectors, Fuel screw in half a turn, boost running at 1bar.

Very happy with the results.
Now waiting for the sun to shine!

Where is your brake servo? must have made that job so easy with that out of the way.
