Hi all,

I like the sound of 150bhp - but don't think I can justify the cost of .216 injectors :(

How far can you go with the Stanadynes on my 88? I have an intercooler fitted and just wanted to ask you folks for any pearls of wisdom, i.e. can you get a worthwhile power gain just by having a good remap? Will economy be compromised?

Any thoughts would be appreciated

I'm in the same boat as you, I can't justify the £££ to get 150bhp.
I have been in touch with a company about a remap and the results they tell me expect is around 117bhp and torque up from 195NM to 240NM. As for economy a 10-15% improvement, thats if you don't change your driving style.....................................as if I wouldI:I:I:I:

Rake if you could find out I would be interested T: need to get an i/c sorted first though.
OK I have spoken to my trade contact and he said that the nozzles of the stanadyne can be modded to give more power and work nicely although he could not give me a BHP figure.

He did however say that he would be willing to let you have them for free if you were to try them and give us the bhp figure post remap / instalation.

Not alot to lose there....sounds like a good way forward .

Are you game ?

Rake, I would be interested in that offer if Mr Fizik deceides not take you up;) I'm not fitting an i/c though, I intend booking it in for the remap in the next week or two. Ta!

Hi Rake I wont be able to fit an i/c for a while as funds are tight, probably wouldnt be able to afford a remap until sept but I would definitely be game for that, and would happily post results up. I am guessing a rolling road bhp read out would cost around 25 quid? T:

I live fairly near pendle performance and chipwizards so once I got a remap sorted I would again post the results up, but would be better getting this done once I have fitted an i/c. Do you think the van would be ok for daily use until september time with new injectors fitting? If its not going to be feasible without immediate remap then I am more than happy to let Merry Monk try them, its just I have just left uni and cant start full time work til september so I dont have a spare 350-400 quid for a remap just yet. But once I have my paycheque I will be decatting, doing the egr and putting an i/c, and then remapping for sure, am sick of getting done by them new vitos! LOL:

Cheers

Isaac

Hi Isaac,

I'd not run them for too long without remap for fear of coking and issues related.

If you dont mind letting monk lead the way I'm sure we can come to some arrangement once the process is proven ;) How does that sound ?

If thats ok with you Isaac then Monk - Send me your address and I'll get you some nozzles.

Regards.

Ron.

Issac, sorry sorry for treading on your toes mate, not what I intended;)
I would be happy with 117bhp, but if it's goes to more than that all the better:D

Ron, I will PM you my address soon, but would you mind if I keep my old nozzles until the remap is done just incase it goes Pete Tong?
Cheers Dave:)H:H:H:

Issac, thanks for that :)
I don't mind testing the nozzles, it could be a good and cheapish mod for us 88bhp owners. I don't think a standard i/c will offer much anyway, but lets see what results I get.
I will post what the results before and after;)
Cheers Dave.

Oi, this was my thread y':* - thought I might get first dibs on injectors!! Shouldn't have left the computer for a couple of days I suppose :(

V.Excited nontheless - can't wait for results :D - Now I have an intercooler my engine looks FAST, just isn't LOL:

Keep us in the loop folks...

Right,

Small snag. I need the stanadyne injectors so we can fit the nozzles in house.

If anyone reading has done PP and has their old stanadynes knocking around and would be willing to donate them to this experiment then please get in touch ASAP.

I'll try contacting some members too.

Watch this space.

You should see the atomisation pattern before and after the mod - a world of difference.

This is exciting.

Thanks mate, I can't see that it won't anything else than be good resultsH:H:H:
I have had the EGR blank done, that made a difference with the pick up, seems less turbo lagT:
I wanted to do the decat when I had the centre section of the exhaust replaced, but the garage said because mine is a 2002 I had to keep the cat:(:(:bhd:bhd:bhd

I should have asked on the forum before I got it done, but the guy is an MOT tester so I took it as a fact. But I'm sure I have seen a thread that says you should have one:dunno::dunno::

Ooooh Ron,

I'd be happy (very happy) with anything around a reliable 130bhp, with decent economy.:wzd

Just to clarify what were doing here... I presume we are upping the nozzle sizes a notch or two? Then a remap to match the nozzles to the rest of the van (exhaust etc)?

Will the atomisation be as good - or do we need to see some on a test rig? R:

I am asking because I've seen premature engine wear with 'bore wash' caused by poor atomisation on 'tweaked' diesel engines in the past. A bit like the proven PP example - I wanna go faster - but I wanna go faster for a very long time!!

Thats why I said nothing is available until its tested inside and out, We have tried 15 differentnozzle manufacturers and only settle on the best.

One of the PP backers if an independant and dedicated diesel fuel injection specialist. Thats where the testing is done and so far the results are so -

Stock stana atomisation - poor.

Modified - Very good.

based on this the project gets the go ahead and the results remain to be seen.
But I do have to say that I am very confident in success or else I wouldnt go down this route publicly ;)

As soon as I get the new nozzles from Rake I will get the remap done. And I will let you all know of the results good or bad. I'm thinking 125bhp without an I/C.
I have total faith in Rake, he knows his onions;););) Otherwise I wouldn't fit the modded nozzles.
