Can you change the regulator on the alternator of the 2.5 BNZ engines without removing the front end?
Is so how?

Thanks

Ok I'm up now, and (slightly) more sober T:

Please see below, I did mine earlier this month without too much bother...

Voltage regulator changed for a new VW (Bosch) one from TPS Preston. ÂŁ80 odd inc VAT.
Changed on the drive, without the front of the van coming off.
disconnect battery - goosed anyway
Front engine mount off
Disconnect a/c unit and jiggle out of the way
alternator unbolted and PS pump removed for easier access
not enough room to remove the alternator but enough space to move it around and disconnect / reconnect the voltage regulator.

Airbag warning light, plus other voltage related fault codes reset.
All good, not found anything that doesn't work yet.
think I got off lightly.

Let me know if you need any more detail

Bikerbob.
I also have a new regulator to be fitted to my t5 2.5. That sounds as difficult as taking the front end off?!!! I was hoping you could disconnect the battery and this would be a simple job from the underneath. I have never heard of any vehicle having to take engine mounts just to reach the back of the alternator! I thought the 2.5 was made for the T5 sounds like a nightmare job that starts out as an hours work and ends up taking a whole weekend!!!!
My brother had a Citroen DS which I ended up maintaining and got talking to a mechanic that worked for Citroen. He warned me never to cut corners on these cars as this would end up taking longer in the end. Guess these vans are just like the old DS?

I did have a go at doing it with everything in situ but no chance just not enough room and stuff in the way.
It's not as bad as it sounds re the engine mount, PS pump etc if you've done the gates coupling s before and know what you're doing.
Plus the benefit of the van not being the daily commute

I think it would be impossible to do without some dismantling on a 2.5. I did mine the same way Bob describes. So far I have done the alternator regulator, the freewheels and couplings and the oil pressure switch without taking the front off. Now I have the coolant temp sensor to change. I'm going to see if I can do it without taking the front off again. But as it's under the inlet manifold it may not be possible without moving the engine back.
