I'm a bit confused, I thought that the water pump on a T5 2.5 was driven off the engine with a gates coupling....

but under the passenger side I have what looks like an electric water pump with large pipes going to it... So what's that? is it part of some sort of pre-heater?

It's probably an auxiliary heater. Webasto ThermoTop I guess.

Exactly! But it's got a water pump under the floor so what's that?

Think it's real name is a recirculating pump and it's just an electric water pump. We have 2 fitted on Bentley Gt's and they just help with pumping the coolant round the engine

In some instances it's used as auxiliary pump, to assist the main one.
In others it's used for after the engine is shut off, to help cool the head.

Many have long since seized or the switch has failed, and most owners in the UK will be blissfully unaware as it doesn't appeared to be needed in the UK climate. I've never heard mine running and haven't got around to testing it yet.
Still as long as it isn't leaking don't worry about it.

I was just curios as to what it was... I was thinking it had some sort of pre heater because it gets warm so quick.. But clearly not... Lol
