Afternoon folks.

I've just put the engine back into my '97 Carvavelle post clutch and dmf change to resolve a leaking slave cylinder.

It refuses to fire!

I've research a lot of threads on here - most associate the problem with the glow plug light not coming on and a broken earth return from the ecu across the top of the engine & the infamous 109 relay starting problems (my black and white) wire has been spliced already lol!)

I've fairly much ruled that out - my glow plug lights up & and goes out again, but does flash after a minute or two with ign on - indicating a fauklt I understand.

I assume I've a broken wire in a loom somewhere or plug not quite home! pushed and pulled & disturbed a fair bit / most of the wiring :-(

VCDS lite wouldn't connect - but that was the same prior to the job. Generic Autel fault reader didn't show any issues.

I've got a proper ross tech cable and VCDS works fine???

Throws up the following faults - I know some of them are caused by cranking over, so more interested in thoughts about the N146 & the data wiring for the immobiliser?? Any advise or previous experience appreciated. I didn't touch the timing etc, both belts are intact - that's my next job - didn't want todo too much without a working vcds - which I now have.

Air in system vacumm bleed return from pump and crank with good battery, all tdi,s report those faults after extended crank and no start.

Presume this will be in the fuel pump wiring loom / or a connector somewhere - anybody know the physical location so I can have a look?

ELSAWIN shows this in the wiring diagrams!

Hi. Having the same problem with my 2.5 ACV engine after a diesel pump swap. All bled right up to the injectors. Tow started it and
i can get it to run above 2000 rpm but if it goes bellow it dies.

I got mine running this morning. Pump was 180* out.

Update - It's running....

Bled the pump and filter / pipework as suggested no luck - fried the starter motor with excessive cranking I guess :-(

Trip to the local autosparks with the burnt up brush set and got a new one, 1/2 an hour later starter rebuilt and installed again!

Traced the wire / N146 sensor fault as unearthed by vcds with a bit of help from elswin wiring diagrams and text re diagnosis and found some broken wires on the big multiplug at the bottom front of the engine - a temp repair and it started within a second or two.

Wires are a bit brittle on one side of the plug so guess I'll source another bit of loom and splice it in nice.
