Evening,

I've taken a lot of ideas from this site whilst lurking and now I've managed to get myself a van I'm happy with T: It's a 2003 (53) 1.9 with tailgate and I bought it from Broadway Van Centre in Wales with 95,000 miles on the clock and a moderate service history. It's in a fairly nice condition and was given the "Broadway stamp" before I got it - 20" wheels (I: god help when they need replacing £), front and rear spoiler and colour coded, carpeted inside with some chrome exterior handle covers.

I booked it straight into VW main dealer for a cambelt and waterpump with a major service to give it a fair start in life and unfortunatly there was a few advisories. Most are silly things I'll do myself but they did note the DMF / clutch could do with being sorted so I have a specialist on the case for a fair sum less than main dealer.

Now with £1,600 of mechanicals being done after paying VAT on a van (grr) the process will be slow, random and on a cash allowed basis but I'll be aiming for as high quality I can on a moderate budget H:

It will have to be suitable to fit two DH MTB's in for when I go away biking yet have enough "home from home" features for when Miss Gazzy B wants to go away.

Well cheers for looking and any questions please fire away.

Gaz

One of the first jobs I tackled was to fix the heater blower air flow directon so sourced the new part from VW. Unfortunatly whilst it needed to be replaced the cable housing clips onto another part of the system nearer to the bulk head, it is this that gives the action of the cable the strength to operate so without this it did not work.

I'll get onto making a bracket another time when I get round to it however for now here is a few snaps of the old / new part.

Old one on the left, new stronger design on the right A: Notice the length difference too.

Good work there bud, did warn you about these 5s and there ability to eat all your money :) spent all night under mine taking the sump off and inspecting oil strainer while I did the service. Only cost me 500 odd this month but I have done all the labour :0

Progress has been slow and not too much to say other than I have cleaned the EGR valve and manifold and it wasn't too bad but I have noticed a slightly sharper response when I put my foot down. I used a 3 in 1 Foaming Degreaser, WOW it's amazing stuff T:

I also set to work on the insulation and went down the "standard" B&Q double sided bubble insulation and plastic bottle route but how much can a van swollow  It's been one expensive part but I did decided to do this as well as I could because I figured it's pointless having a sweet van if you dont want to stay in it because its cold etc.

I also went down the low cost flash band route for the sound reduction, I say reduction because it's not as good as a true matt in my experience but for me for now it was suitable.

Anyhow a few pics :)

Progress has been slow due to funds being tighter than my old man at a bar however I'm now onto the carpeting and it's the first time I thought WOW it WILL be a weekend van one day LOL:

For a first time I'm 99% happy and wouldn't have done much different. The Megavanmats stretch is a breeze to carpet with so another T:

I made a start on my single bed / bench with pull out extension recently so here's a few snaps to show how I done it. I did a lot of it on a measure and cut as you go but I'm very happy with it and the other half is knowing that we will not be sharing a single like she first thought T:

Really like the bed idea - it's right up what we're after. Any more pics of the progress? What wood did you use? Any hints or tips...?

Thanks! T:

Great start, carnt beleve that broadway didn't even clean the floor before putting the flooring down, at least you've now sorted it and don't a proper job on the lining, T:

You've now also got me thinking about my egr valve, maybe something that I'll need to inspect.
