Hi this is my first post so bear with me.

She's a 2009 vw t5 2.5 tdi 130 with 175k on the clock, she's been well loved, oiled, washed, waxed and serviced throughout her life.

The story goes like this; so the poor old girl developed a poor start, I was cranking her for about 15 to 30 seconds before she started.

Then one day at full temperature she decided to run lumpy and cut out, so I took her over to my local independent specialists, they

hooked up the vag software to her computer and found nothing out of the ordinary, however they suggested that it may be one of three

things:

1 . the lift pump from the tank causing unequal pressure

2. the diesel pump on the engine

3. a porous or cracked cylinder head

They tried the first two on the old cheapest option first method of the mechanic handbook :( and its ended up being the cylinder

head!

So a new vw cylinder head with fitting and ancillaries would come to about £3000, or a cheaper replica job would be £2000.

but decent second hand engine is about £2500 to £3500 and they would do a straight swap for about £500/600 and i could take the

chance to fit a new clutch at the same time saving in the long run.

Does anyone have a decent bnz engine lying around or a decent cylinder head or any advice about what i should do next ?

Ask for a refund on the two parts that were fitted unnecessarily, then fit a genuine head. The used engine route is as big a gamble as they come. Sometimes better the devil you know.
