Just done 120k miles in the T4 , which equates to 32k since i got it 4 years ago . Run on Veg oil since day 1 T:

32k miles = 64 full tanks @ £69 per tank ( veg oil £17.25 20litres ) £4416.00 total

32k on Diesel would have cost £112 per tank £7168.00 total

Total Saving £2752.00 - cost of rebuilt pump / heat exchanger / lift pump £344 =£ 2408.00 :D

Well I`ve been converted to the veggie cause too. Been running on Tesco`s sunflower oil the last month or so. £16 for 20l :) Bit harder to start on cooler days but other than that it`s great. 93 2.4d.

Rapeseed oil is better as its thinner, same price at Tescos. Add drop of diesel in winter to thin.

Apologies if I leave out a couple of noughts.

In my 2.5TDi I can get 40 miles to the gallon, (with the help of Rhino), which equates to 800g or 3640 litres.

At about £1:30 per litre fuel cost for 32k miles is £4,732. That's £2,436 less than the estimate of £7,168.

Put another way I can get an albeit optimistic 700 per complete tankful which is 45 tanks, not 64 tanks. At £100 per tank that's £4,500.

The proposed diesel fuel cost for 32k miles is £7,168 which at £1.30/litre would get me 5,513 litres or 1,211 gallons.

If I burned 1,211 gallons over 32k miles that would equate to 26 mpg.

£4.4416 for vegetable oil vs £4,616 (my figures averaged out), is a saving of £200.

Then there's £344 costs, which might be additional to filters.

So Diesel is cheaper? Let the arguments commence!

what has fuel economy got to do with it?

what has your fuel economy got to do with it?

I would have thought fuel economy has everything to do with it considering the original post.

My fuel economy serves to point out that the projected savings may be optimistic.

Basically the mpg for a gallon of veggie and a gallon of diesel differs.

Just got myself a 2.4 d. Let the svo running commence, then with the savings maybe i can justify a 2.4 turbo conversion, having seen brookter on youtube!:ILU:

p.s. TDI's won't run as good on veg as IDI Engine T:

So £51.96 for a full tank of fuel and 500miles min ;)

Diesel £111.76 per tank
