the tapping, does it go when brake pedals pressed?
worn vac pump if so:*
Tappets would have to be extremely noisy to really affect Mpg. And without stripping you wont know if the noise is caused by worn camshaft, worn head or worn hydraulic tappets. You can buy additives that claim to quieten noisy hydraulic tappets, never tried them though.Okay. It's recently had a service at the local garage so the oil/filters are new. 10/40 oil was used. Could the lifters being out of adjustment cause MPG to drop to low 20's?
i stand correctedT:Not the same vac pump on the 1.9 as the 2.5. I:
It only sounds like one that is out of spec so I doubt my MPG problem is this.Tappets would have to be extremely noisy to really affect Mpg. Did the man with the spanners strip it at all ?Spoke to the man with spanners..".and it ain't the sodding cam, or the hydraulic tappets anyone got any ideas pls
Took cover off and inspected cam for wear, cam n tappets all ok, fan and auxiliary belt disconnected engine still making noise. Makes more noise when over running, and as for the oil leak it would appear to be coming from a pipe or summat near the turbo..
