When setting the timing on an ABL motor With it mounted to a stand (ie no gearbox or flywheel)
Is it timed at a true TDC or is it actually slightly off TDC?????
If true TDC then no problem just DTI gauge it to TDC but if it actually off TDC anyone know the piston Depth/height at its timing point?????

Hope that makes sense

The flywheel mark is at no.1 tdc when lined up with the pointer in the gearbox window.
If the head is on you wont be able to use a DTI gauge to find tdc as the injector goes into a turbulence chamber before the main chamber.
So if this is the case then you can only guess at no.1 piston position.
I would time it up when the flywheel and box are back on

As I said box and flywheel not on but what I did not say was head is off so DTI not a problem,
What I want to do is, if TDC is true TDC I will DTI it then mark rear of crank to the block face so when the head goes on I can set the cam and pump timing using that mark.

So is TDC True TDC or some degree off TDC???????????????

Thanks
