Hi guys, I am currently looking at 1995 T4 Caravelle, 5cyl petrol, auto, 220,000km. Anything I should be aware of? The guy wants $3999AU Ono. Also will 2007 17" Golf GTI rims fit it?

Yes dont do it it will do about 20 to the gallon.

The autobox can be a bit tricky & it it goes t*ts up it will be expensive.
The petrol engine itself ist a good one, allthough many will testify to it`s thirst. The autobox will add to that
As for the price, it`s hard to guesstimate from far far away.

Rims will physically fit but be a inproper alternative. Should be covered in (felt) abt 1000+ threads on

Thanks for the advice. The 2.5 and 2.0 petrol engines seem more popular in Australia, the diesels are way overpriced. I'm considering an auto only because of left knee problems even after 3 operations.

Autos are known for reliability issues, if its not too late, think about fitting an oil cooler to the autobox. T:

As Abyss wrote, an oil cooler along with an oil change & a general service is never bad.
Autoboxes CAN be rebuilt although few "drive way mechanics" rate themselves as good enough to have a crack.
Many brands suffer from auto-issues, maybe U could talk to someone more local reg a quote should worse case see daylight
