Morning all,

I'm going to look at a van on Saturday. This'll be our very first van so I'm looking for some advice on particular areas to consider when buying! A buyers guide if you will.

I'm no stranger to VWs or buying cars in fact, but is there anything additional I should be aware of when buying a T5.

The van is a LWB kombi with a 2.5 TDI 174.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Also, if there is a thread on this already, please point me in the right direction and let go :D

Dave.

Up to date service history will be a big bonus.....otherwise you will need to consider new cambelt/gears.
Check the VEL for a combi.......some people have had surprises!!
Previous MOTs to check how the miles have piled on
....and if it sounds too good to be true.......it probably is

Thanks dude. By 'VEL' do you mean the V5? Check to make sure it's registered with the DVLA as a combi/kombi?

Supposed full VW history with the van so I'll be checking that.

Some research this morning has suggested that the cam lobes and followers are made of cheese on the early vans. This is a 2004 I'll be looking at. What exactly should I be looking for? Can you give them a visual inspection through the oil filler cap?

Thanks in advance T:
