I have got 18" sportline wheels on my T5, and have 5th one for spare as it is 4motion.
The diff wouldn't like a different rolling radius on an axle.
The larger alloy does not fit in the "under slung" area under the van.
Is there an adapted bracket of some sort that will accept a spare alloy wheel under the van?
There must be a gap in the market if not!

cant speak for the 4motion but the standard van you can move the hinged part of the bracket where it attaches to the van

yes you can change the hinge position of the spare wheel holder to accomodate alloys / bigger tyres.
I now have my 18" Sportline spare wheel under the van.
