Hello all,

any advice, gratefully received...

I bought a T4 1.9TD van last year, with dreams of going away camping, kitesurfing with the g'friend etc... only for the engine to pack up after a long drive from up north back to Bournemouth. Forked out for a new VEGE engine, which was fitted at a garage in Christchurch. This all seemed fine, with my speed being limited to 50mph for first 500 miles in order to apparently 'break in' the new engine. The only problem was, was that when I'd done the 500 miles, the garage that had fitted the new engine was no longer there(!), didn't answer calls or anything, so I obviously couldn't get them to remove the limiter and pump up my speed.
(Still with me I hope!)

So, I took it to another garage (that was recommended by the VEGE engine sales-people) that then did my 500 mile service by changing my oil and filters and supposedly taking off the limiter (behind the actual pedal). However, they couldn't understand why it still doesn't go above 55 mph. Seemed like a complete puzzle to them as to why it can't go above 55.

I'm now coming up towards an MOT and obviously want to get the engine up to scratch, especially as it's a new engine! When pressing down on the last third or so of the accelerator pedal, nothing happens at all, but the van seems to function pretty well at lower speeds and as long as I'm not going up a hill! (It's also set at quite a high 'ticking over' rate when stationary at lights for example - apparently as first garage said it needed to have/keep a lot of diesel going through in the engine).

I've tentatively booked it into Breeze VW Poole, as I'm a bit tired of garages that vanish without tracte, or don't know what they're doing! Obviously 'official' VW garage could cost me (another) bomb, so surely with a new engine (that's still under 1 year warranty), it should be fairly simple to get up to speed?

Any ideas what I could or should do next please? Would love to know of someone or some-garage who is reputable, gonna be honest and quote a reasonable price, anywhere in Dorset.

Cheers much. I wanna love this T4, I really do!

I would recommend APD in wareham, just outside of poole, close to the bakers arms roundabout.

Really good guys, all VW specialists and transporter nuts.

Worth a call even just for a chat, ask for Neal or Paul, say Vince passed on their number

VEGE engines were at one time "remanufactured " in Tunisia. Nuff sed.

The last time I had dealings with a VEGE engine I used this address:

VEGE - Ir H. de Grootweg 1 - PO Box 28 NL-3200 AA - SPIJKENISSE - HOLLAND

Tel: 0031 181 652121 Fax: 652140 E-mail: [email protected]

You should be able to see a VEGE logo stamped next to the engine number on the block.

Might be worth contacting them to see if they can help?T:

Cheers for the info... it went to the Breeze VW garage (reasonable price) and then they sent it on to Poole Diesel in the end; the fuel inlet system just needed re-tuning a lot! Now all sorted (touch wood)!
