The time has come again to replace the ATF in my T4 and I'm trying to do it as cheap as possible.

So, I thought I'd let you all know the bits I've got and the prices I've paid...

Filter/Strainer - VW # 01M 325 429 £11.99
I ordered this from ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-RANGE-AUTO...CarParts_SM&hash=item27b2fc3723#ht_2944wt_864 best thing is that, unlike the vw filter, it also includes the filter gasket which costs £4.09 from VW.

Filter Gasket - VW # 01M 325 443 - Free with ebay Topran Filter

Pan Gasket - VW # 098 321 370 - £33.71
Bought from VW, unfortunately couldn't source this elsewhere.

With the ATF itself I was looking for something new. Previously I wasn't happy with the life of the pukka VW stuff, so I used a synthetic ATF. This has worked fine and it has lasted longer, but the shifting didn't feel as smooth as the VW fluid.
After some trawling I decided to go for Fuchs Titan 3353 from Opie oils. It's a more modern ATF than the VW G052162A2, it is approved for use in the T4 box and it gets good reviews from MB users.
I know people are nervous trying something different in their box, but I've read that Fuch's produce oils for VW so I feel confident when they say it meets the VW spec.
I ordered 5 litres from Opie for £58.05 only to discover afterwards this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mercedes-App-...CarParts_SM&hash=item1c0b03545b#ht_6908wt_864 which is the same oil, just packaged differently.
This would have been a lot cheaper £33.99 for 4 litres or £48.74 for 6 litres quite a bit cheaper!!

Hope this is of interest to Team Auto.

I'll keep you posted how the new fluid feels when it's in my box.
