I was driving along & all & all was fine until the battery warning light comes on & all dials go dead [speedo, fuel & all].....about 15 seconds later all dials recover, but the battery light stayed on.

Any ideas as to what has happened?

The van still drives as normal.

Van is a 102 T4

Thank's in advanceT:

Same thing happened to mine. Turned out to be the split charge relay I installed.

Check if the alternator is charging first.

Thanks JimmyK

I've had that before with the split relay....but it didn't cause the dials to go...did that happen on yours?

I woke up yesterday morning, got in to drive (was a strangely cold night staying in a pub car park in marple. stockport) and nothing on the dash worked apart from the indicators. Rev, speedo, gear (auto), middle light cluster, nothing! The leds for the mileage and time were like they had been cracked - diplaying random dashes like - - _. The gear led in the middle started showing D3 then N 2, i thought it was going to work its way from the centre to outer (then R 1.....)
About 5 miles, it came on, then went, then 3 miles more came on again (thank god for Iphone and trail guru app with speed)
Not a problem since.
What could it have been?
I thought initially a fuse. But cant check them all, and why woould it come back on?
thanks

Yes. I was driving around a roundabout and felt a slight jolt, looked down at the speedo and it had stopped working along with the rev counter and the battery light came on.
Then about 30secs later the speedo and rev counter started working, but the battery light stayed on. Drove home and checked if the alternator was working. No charge.
took alternator to specialist to test and repair if nesessary. They fitted a new rectifyer pack and all was ok for a couple of days. then the battery light came back on. Read somewhere on this forum about the split charge relay causing this problem, so I disconnected it and alternator started charging. Job a good un.:ILU:
