Unfortunatly no multimeter! I removed the fuse from the fuse box that powered the stereo...would unplugging make a difference??

Thanks for the reply!

Although you have pulled a fuse, it might have been a fuse for the switched side not the perm live, also someone may have bypassed something. If this started when you fitted the radio I would pull the plug out of the radio and see if it changes it, then take it from there.

You only need a cheap multimeter if you can get your hands on one, set it on current/amps (10A)and disconnect the negative terminal from the battery, put one probe on the battery terminal and one on the cable that goes on the battery, don't put the cable back on the battery though. Then have a look what the amp reading is, but don't turn the ignition on as it will blow the fuse in the multimeter. Make sure everything is switched off in the van, let the reading on the meter settle as electronic units will start up and then settle.

some kind of drain happening, l had similar issues recently, turned out to be alternator

local electrical mech did a test, tested everything, l did not have a clue

based on his test, he felt it was alternator was gone, looked at reconditioning, 15 years old, so opted for new

runs like a dream, let a good electrician do their tests, better than struggling for weeks and doing loads with no results, keep us posted

Someone else has mentioned the alternator....

Its deffo not the Starter motor as with a full battery it jumps in to life and its also not that old....

Hi
Had a similar problem recently it turned out being the secondary electric Water pump not
turning off, faulty sensor. Perhaps a possibility......

It's a common cause of battery drain. If you listen under the bonnet you can hear it running.

Bet you it's the alternator. Had the same problem for months. A new alternator fixed it. Got a bigger capacity battery fitted while I was at it and all is well!

Yes, that's normal. The cold weather will find any weakness in your battery so get it checked at a battery specialist.

Tuesday morning, went to take my daughter to school and the engines turned over a few times and battery died, she had to walk to school. Put battery on charge for 24 hours, turned key, all normal lights on dash come on, relays under dash clicked but nothing from starter. Tested battery its fully charged. Tried hitting starter with a hammer.

So I have rung a mobile auto electrician who is going to come round tomorrow morning at 10 and look at it :* only 3 weeks ago she had a full service, cam belt and a new alternator grrrrrrrrr

Most likely to be the red/black wire to the solenoid. The spade connector gets a bit corroded, normally a bit of clean sorts it.
