Hi folks. If anyone can offer some insight into this I'd appreciate it! My van (56 plate T5, 1.9 TDI) has just developed what kinds like a squealing belt noise at full lock, both sides, even while stationary.

I'm guessing this is a power steering issue. Is there anything obvious to check in the first instance? Any common faults?

Many thanks!

Sorry, just done a proper forum search and it sounds like the power steering belt is the usual suspect. Does anyone know how hard these are to change? Can you re-tension JM?

Thanks!

Also could be the alternator pulley that has seized that causes this. Check the belt tensioner as someone steers to full lock, if it jumps around then it's likely the pulley is the culprit.

I had this on my 1.9 also.
It was the alternator clutch pulley as mentioned above.
Quite straightforward to fit but bought a special tool to do it.

Has anyone done this job themselves?

I've got the squeal and would like to not wake up the neighbours every morning when I manoeuvre the van to go to work!

Don't particularly want to pay the prices I've been quoted when I can see the pulley for £31 online.
