Had a look on Europarts for new blades, they go from £14 to £50  fifty pound is a lot of money for wiper blades so I was wondering have we any blade experts who might recommend a good blade.

What make was the standard blade.

I had a lot of issues doing this because I believed Amazon would match my van to wiper blades - they did not, the fitting did not match, they therefore did not fit.

Then in a fit of anger went to local shop and bought cheap ones - total rubbish - threw them away as they did not do the job properly (smear).

Now I have Hook U fitting, two 23 inch Bosch flat profile and will always go with this in future.

Mine is a 2009 2.5tdi.

Hope this helps

It's a bit more complicated than you might expect. On the 2013 Kombi that I know is factory original, both blades are 24 inch.

The original factory driver's side blade is by SWF (who I've heard of but don't know well) - it's straight, 24" with a spoiler, and Bosch Superplus SP24S seems to fit that well.

The original factory passengers side blade is unusual in that it has no maker's mark, 24" long, but it's curved along its length. I have a suspicion that it may be custom-made for this application - I can't recall ever seeing an aftermarket curved blade. A straight 24" blade seems to fit OK, but the tip ends up right on the corner of the screen. A Bosch 24S blade would fit OK but we put on an Aldi £5 generic one and it has been absolutely fine.

Although the wiper arrangement on a pre-facelift is slightly different (they sit higher above the edge of the bonnet) our 2006 Kombi has exactly the same blades - a straight SWF spoiler blade on the driver's side, and an unmarked curved blade for the passenger.

To add another quirk, some vans come with a shorter blade on the passenger side - I don't think this is anything other than VW penny pinching, as AFAIK the max possible length is the same on all of them.

Thanks Traffic. I checked the VW handbook which only explains how to change them but no info on make to use. The UK/Ire has more than it's fare share of rain and it really bums me out when I get into friends and family cars only to find the wipers are worn.

There's little point in going into an auto shop anymore and being sold the wipers they make the biggest profit from, take yer pick all made in China. VW dealers parts sales are outrageously priced, very hard to find an honest man these days.

I've just spent a fascinating* 15 minutes trouble shooting my squeaky rear wiper blade...

Bosch has a wiper app you can download!

It gave me A403H as the correct fitment for my rear wiper.
Wiperblades.co.uk gave me A400H

I looked it up and found fitment videos online - mine is the A400, so Bosch's app is wrong!

Difference - brace yourselves...
A400H : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyKBY_DcugE
A403H : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1ARz8x8ZVc

*or maybe not..

Ended up giving mine a good clean with IPA and it's now silent and good as new!

wiperblades site saved for the future though

We have the later style wiper arms (non hook type) and struggled to find the appropriate blades while trying not to go to the dealer .

Found bosch did them but they were far from cheap .....then found a set of lucas that were 'bought by accident' by someone and more importantly dirt cheap I: ...

Fitting required a little fettling as the clips werent very positive but all came good in the end :D

On reflection i should have stopped being a tight bottom and bought bosch in the first place I:

i had piaa on previous car and lasted for over thhree years and i sold them with the car. as soon as the current ones gonna go, ill buy nothing but piaa again. they are used on rally cars and are made of silicon instead of rubber - no need to say moreT:
what thhey do is to leave silicone film when used so water beads and it runs off, so you no need to use them that often, i was able to drive in rain without wipers running and was able to see perfectly clear - sort of like motorcycle visor when treated:ILU:

I bought Valeo Silencio and a Bosch for the back. Came in at an eye watering £40. Never again. Internet next time.

While on the subject, anyone else had a problem with rear wiper not doing its job properly even after brand new one fitted? Mine sort of misses a large portion within its sweep - baffled as to why...

Standard VW/TPS for me & no issues, std VW/TPS screenwash too.
If I ever get a build up of "road film" that causes any issues I just give the screen a good clean with washing up liquid, dry & re-allpy Rain-Ex.

People do sometimes not replace worn out wiper arms - if these are worn & have too much play in them the best wipers blades in the world will not perform properly.

As a cab driver using a T5 shuttle and driving 50,000 miles a year, I always use BOSCH AERO-TWIN excellent clearing of water at high and low road speeds.

I also brought a German made tool which, by use of a hidden blade, allows you to re-cut your blades twice by drawing the tool along the blade first in slot 1, then the second time in slot 2.
It means you get 3 times the life from one set of blades.
Great value for money.

I wouldn't bother with their batteries. Lucas do a lifetime warranty one which you can find on fleabay for very little over the tps trade price and less than rrp. Or a 4 yr warranty battery for less. They have much higher CCA ratings. the VW ones seem to be pretty minimal in their capacity / ratings. But I'm an occasional driver rather than a daily driver. That seems to stress the batteries much more though.

after reading about the PIAA wipers on here, i bought some.
£40 for pair so cheaper than bosch offerings in halfords.
fitted them today and what a difference. whisper quiet now even on dry screen.
only had the van for 2-3 months and dealer fitted new cheapo blades, which were quite awful.
it will be interesting to see how long the PIAA's last.
mine are the si-tech version, btw.
