Just got some 16" Audi wheels that need new tyres

What is the best size tyre to go for ? load rating and speed

The letters w v z etc... goes over my head a little !

Tyres on them at the moment are 205 55 16

hey mate i got audi 16 as well, best size to match origionl rolling radius of steelies is 225/55/16

Load rating, anything above 95 (690kg)

http://www.rotationuk.com/gbu0-display/tyre_load_ratings.html

Speed ratings, anything above N i'd say

http://www.rotationuk.com/gbu0-display/speed_rating.html

now most tyres you look at and the ones i have on my van are 'car rated' not van, but you take a judgment on that these are my new ones they are rated as 99W so load rating per tyre is 775 which is over 3 ton and my van dunt weigh that much, and speed rating is W 167mph and i'm never gona get that fast LOL: so i made the choice that they where ok, but the choice is yours (disclaimer) I:

Check it out on eBay!

hope that helps mate, oh this is what they look like on my van, although they are my old tyres different make but same size :D

Speed rating doesn't really come into it, load index does!

Most van tyres are R speed rated this equals 106mph.
S - 112mph
T - 118mph
H - 130mph
V - 149mph
W - 168mph
Y - 186mph
ZR - speeds in excess of 149mph

The higher load index you can get the better - if you wanna stick with 205/55r16 you can get extra load these will have a 94 load index (this is 690kg per corner). If you've got bottomless pockets you can get a Bridgestone in that size in a 98/96H (775kg per corner).

In my opinion 205/55r16 tyres are too small for a T4, rolling circumference is smaller than 195/70r15, try looking for 195/65r16 - this will give you an OE rolling circumference, proper 8ply van tyre in an appropriate speed rating.

Hope this helps.... T:

The following weights are for the maximum permitted axle weight that is recommended by the manfacturer. The load rating represents the minimum load rating needed for the highest of the two maximum permitted axel weights.

The following chart is meant only a guide and you should always check your individual vehicle for the precise axle weights.

Whilst it is possible to run lower rated tyres than your maximum axel weight doing so could result in legal ramifications and invalidate your insurance in the case of an accident.

I tried lower rated load van tyres, than what my velle should use and found it really leaning around corners, switched to higher rating load i.e 100-102 and found the ride much better around corners and felt more stable...
