Just had my 84 remapped (apparently to 102) - drives lovely but there is some grey smoke when you are pulling - is this normal after a remap? Will it clear after driving the bus for a few miles & does it do any harm?

The tuning company that did this really shouldn't have let it go smoking unless they really didn't know what they was doing.

Is it Grey / White smoke that is coming out or is it Black smoke?

Also what mileage have you on the engine?

Did you get a Dyno Print out and also log report?

Its good to get a FULL description of what the vehicle is doing so its easier to try and give a correct answer to what problem he could be having.

So grey / white or grey blue or more along the lines of black grey

Agree... but this is why its important to have FULL description in full detail on what the vehicle is doing so that I can try and give him correct advice what to look for.

It would be to easy to jump in with both feet and blame the map or tuner, as it could be other things thats making it blow smoke, but really the tuner should have done tests on all sensors to make sure everything was correct before tuning.

You see with tuning it can highlight a problem that the vehicle has always had.

This is why its 100% important for live logging also also testing before any tuning takes place.

My 1999 2.5tdi 102bhp blows white smoke on start up poss tinge of blue, but when warm its crystal clear? i need this sorted
before i bring van down for you guys to remap, ps its supposed to of had rebiuld 8k ago, it does go like a rocket already!

Mine used to give a good puff of white smoke at start up cos the pump timing was out.

Starting also took longer than it should have, the engine had to turn over sereral times before it would start. Whereas it now starts on the flick of the key.

My advice is dont get a remap if your timing is out, as i heard someone did then had it retimed and it then smoked like hell.

Totally agree with what Charlie wrote above.

These T4 2.5TDI engines require the Pump Timing checking and adjusting on a regular basic. (Every 12months I would recommend)

As the belts bed in and also stretch over time the pump timing also goes out.

On the T5 2.5TDI engine is could be down to the Cam Sensor as this adjust the injection timing as well as the coolant temp sensor etc etc

Before we carry out any remaps on the T4 2.5TDI one of the first things we check is the pump timing and if out we can adjust this.
