Hi All

Just got my second T4 2.5 tdi 88 BHP 142,000 on the clock full VW history to 100,000 then independent local garage well Ish this is the problem.

chap i purchased it from said the Cam belt had been done at 127 000 miles only the receipt had been lost ??? all other history was in place and i got it a price i was happy with but this is my dilemma is there any way of telling because if it has been done then the £400 cam belt job will not need doing for another 38,000 miles and i am only doing 5,000 per year as this is my second vehicle. thats a long way off.

but is it worth the gamble ?

Is there any way of telling if this has been done or not ?

Do garage keep copy of receipts and if i asked them would they look for it ?

If i get it done were is best local garage VW main Dealer or VW specialist ? How long a job is it ?

Thanks for all the help.

Jon

I personally would never take a chance. It's cheaper to get the belt replaced than the engine.

Don't forget that's it's 60,000 or 4 years whatever comes first.

If you don't use a main dealer, just make sure the garage has knowledge of these engines, and the correct gear to set the timing. Also get the waterpump changed at the same timeT:

My opinion is the same as above, get it done and the water pump, not worth risking it. You can't put a price on peace of mind I:

I see you are in Southampton. Give Breeze Van Centre a call for a quote, I know for a fact they do reduced labour rates for the T4 as they are older vans, you might be surprised at the price, add to that you will get a guarantee if they do it as they'll be genuine parts T:

As someone who has paid the price

I let a belt reach 4yrs and was going to get it done soon

but then it snapped- only done 30000miles in that time

cost over a grand

so for peace of mind id get it done

The chap i bought the van off said he'd had the cambelt done last year but couldnt find the receipt for it so ive booked it in at VW to get it done.
Its 400ish quid but im buying piece of mind more than anything:)
Get it booked in!!!!!

That is expensive! i got quoted alot less than that along with the 10% discount. That price you have is virtually £200 more than im paying at a VW dealership.
Doesnt make sense does it?

Same dilemma here.
I'm waiting for the seller/converter to send on the service history for my van so that I know what I need to do before the season starts.
I've been assured that it has been done in the recent past but I'd still like to see it in print.
If only the fitters always labelled up the cover with the date of the last replacement.
