Hi all,
in the final stages of planning our second jolly to France in our bus.

We are looking at a couple of sites in La Palmyre in the Charente Maritime region (I think!!)

The favourites so far are

http://www.campinglapinede.com/uk/articles-1/1-3-la-palmyre-a-corner-of-nature-by-the-ocean/

and

http://www.camping-atlantique-parc.com/en/

We need to be pretty close to this area as we are meeting with friends staying close by.

Any other suggestions?

Also we are planing to ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe as this seems the best priced option, has anyone compared or even done that and maybe the Portsmouth to Caen or Le Harve crossing. I would be interested in hearing how the difference in ferry prices compares with the diesel saved etc.

Thanks in advance!

Hi there

I am off for my first venture across the channel this summer. We are going to the vendee which is just a little bit up from the area you are looking at. We have booked http://en.camping-la-garangeoire.com/

When looking did not notice the area you are looking at. It looks good a probably a better chance of decent weather to where we are heading. We our sailing Portsmouth to St Malo. Its not cheap but when you live in Portsmouth its unbearable to drive to Dover and back and then the extra in France.

Not off until July but already very excited

I've stayed in La Palmyre many times, most recently in 2011 at Camping Monplaisir in Les Mathes which was reasonably priced. If you stay in Les Mathes then you tend to get bigger pitches and you don't get blocked in by beach traffic. There are cycle paths all the way to the beach that are much more convenient than driving and trying to find a parking spot.

The zoo at La Palmyre is very good, as is all the coastline around there. It's worth checking out some of beaches up the coastline near Ile D'Oleron as well as they are often quieter.

Good to know Rob, we're really looking forward to it. Sounds like a lovely place to go.
Just need to get a few more essentials and we're good to go. Roll on August!T:
Booked a crossing on DFDS from Newhaven to Dieppe on the night crossing so it will give us a full day to do the 6 hour drive to La Palmyre.

Maybe stop off in Le Mans for lunch or something.

Thanks all.

We stayed at Sequoia parc, although we poshed it up in a static van...not sure if they take campers/tents but it was a great place for the kids (if you have them)
