I rather stupidly drove out of a petrol station and onto a dual carriageway with my fuel cap still on the roof...
It bounced off and was probably knocked further down the road by a passing car or squashed under a lorry, never to be seen again.
It was a lockable screw cap - opened by my ignition key.

I'm aware that I can buy a temporary/replacement cap, even lockable with a new key, but is there a way to purchase another lockable cap which can only be opened by my ignition key? Or is that more effort/expense than it's worth?

I have a T4 2.5tdi 2003.

Yes you can.

But any T4 fuel cap that is lockable of the same type and year as yours. Then you need to remove the key barrel, once removed from the fuel cap you need to put your ignition key into the fuel cap, then file down the tumblers that stand proud.

This is how you can get it to work off of your key.

I think you can actually remove the tumblers and reshuffle them to accept your current ignition key.

I used to do this years ago when I changed fuel tanks on my bikes so that I could use my ignition key to open my tank.
