I've just almost finished converting a T4 transporter into a campervan. It's had an engine in froma golf and alloy wheels,re-spray, rear spoiler, new sound system, intercooler, etc etc.
I work full time as a Bar manager and insurance was all looking good until I told them that I also work full time as a musician.
The van's not going to be used for anything work related and is just going to be for the odd trip away.
Anyway I've tries Flux, Brentacre, Shield, Camper specialists, HIC and nobody wants to know as soon as I say I'm a musician.
Any ideas Guys?
Yours Frustratedly
Dave

That's my full time job unfortunately mate. I work as a bar manager but I go on tour alot as well and that's my main source of income.
The van won't be carrying equipment but I don't want to be screwed if I get involved in an accident.

Hm that' a tricky one. Most standard insurers won't take musicians (or charge a very high premium) although I'm sure there's some specialist musician insurers but will they take modified vehicles.

One thing, what type of music do you play? A friend of mine is a professional folk musician (which is never a category for insurers!) He found that classical musician has much lower premiums than rock/pop musician!

I think (and this is hazzy, I worked in car insurance 10 yeas ago) there was a concept called 'natural insurer' and the last insrance company have to provide you with a quote, you don't have to like it tho!

I remember this was the only way we'd insure people with drink driving convictions, any new customer would be turned away. I think it was automatically 3 times the quote with the conviction!

They and HIC both say no chance.
Because of mods / because it's parked on the road and because I've only been driving 3 years.

I'm a car salesman which insurers tend to hate, but just campers quoted me very happy - £100 less than Brentacre (surprised me) and £100's less than flux. Def worth a try!

I'm with a firm called Drayton (I'll find the details if you want them?) mines tricky to insure now because I've added seats and windows and use the van to go to work as a joiner and to carry my tools, there a broker so should get you insured!

Yeh tried them , unfortunately they don't insure for modifications like a golf engine being put in.
I managed to find an insurance broker called Frank Pickles who gave me a good quote. I told him I was both a musician and a bar manager and he said itd be fine to put bar manager as my main job as I'm not using the van for anything music related.
I do need to put in a cat 1 alarm and tracker though but at least I've got insurance.
