I have aquired a set of passat steel wheels with very good tyres on and the ones on my van are nackered. What is the axle weights on an 800 special? I think the max weight on the car tyres is 650kg. can I just get away with these? Bearing in mind i dont carry weight. Just wondering incase I get a tug by VOSA ect?

In my opinion it is important to use correct rated tyres on the van.
I have a T4 campervan and the tyres are rated at 102-104.
You could find more information by searching through the forum, good luck T:

I would worry about your insurance not paying out if anything happened.loads of cheap van tyres to be had on ebay etc as us folks like alloys

VW recommend 97 load rating for SWB Velle and 102 for a LWB Velle for example. If fitting alloys would need to be properly road rated for what the van might potentially carry, ( as the previous poster said).

Same sentiments apply to vans.

i ran mine for a short time on 91 rated tyres which is something like 650 per corner, again carrying no weight but as the compound is softer they didnt last very long and it was always on my mind.

Back on proper van rated 102/104's now. i wouldn't recommend using them
