I am hoping to get the timing belt chnaged on my van, do I need to find a garage with the Vag Com programme to reset the timing? One garage said that they mark where the pulleys are and make sure the new belt is put on with these in the same place as they came off.

Can I get the timing checked at a VW garage, how much is it likely to cost?

nothing wrong with the old tipex marks, well on some engines lol

after the fuel pump belt has been changed you will need to get the timing checked with a vag-com. so there is nothing stopping you getting the belts done at one place then the timing checked at another place if you want to.

cost is the only down side, may be more expensive to get belts done at one place then timing done at another if you get me.

Read up on where the timing marks are and do it properly. Toppex dots method is for lazy people who don't really know what they are doing.

Shouldn't be hard to find someone local with VAG COM who'd be able to lend you an hour of their time for beer money, I wouldn't go paying garage rates, kind of defeats the object of doing the work yourself.
