Hi there

Just done a search to see if anybody has posted regarding this company and nobody has offered any opionion as to whether they are any good.

Basically I'm moving to the dark side and selling my T4 and am looking for a T5 to do a full conversion on. I've had experience of two conversions allready. The first was by XXXXXXXX' and it was dreadfull. The gas fittings were not safe as the fridge had been incorrectly flued. The units joined me in the cab once when I braked hard. The lining had been put on with prit stick and I had to reglue everything on a daily basis. I ended up selling the conversion interior for £100. The only thing I kept was the fridge, battery, gas bottle and curtains. I was going to take the company to court but I was just so annoyed with them I just didn't want to waste any more energy on them. Basically just had to write off £3000.

The I had an Aztec conversion. Brilliant job. Its still fantastic five years later. Nothing has broken or come loose. Great company to deal with. I would reccomend them to anybody. But they were not cheap then and Ive seen how much they charge now so they are a bit over my budget.

So now I'm looking for a new converter. Has anybody used Clearcut ? Are they good to work with ? Any problems with the company ? Certainly their prices are competetive and their conversions look good.

I look forward to hearing your feedback.

If you are talking about Clearcut Conversions in Devon.

Yes have heard of them. It's run by a guy called Richard.

When had a Mazda Bongo cough cough I heard nothing but good reports on his camper conversions in Bongos.

I have seen their work up close and bought allot of materials for them. They are a couple of legends. I have seen many conversions by 'professionals' which I would not want to put my name to.

If I was on the market to buy a conversion I would go to clear cut without a doubt. Their furniture units are spot on, I have also heard they have a huge following in bongo bongo land.

However I have not used one of their conversions not have I seen their pluming or electrics up close. I would trust them though.

I hope this helps?

Thanks for your response. Interesting to hear you have seen their units up close and they look good.

There are converters all over the place and yes there are converters near me. But as I said in my post, I've wasted money on one conversion allready (with the Timber Technicians or Timber Tossers as I call them now) and I don't intend to do the same again. Money is tighter than ever these days and I want as much value for my money as possible. Aztec who are near me and who converted my current van are excellent, just a bit expensive now.

To be honest I will probably just get the company to carpet, insulate and glaze the van. I think unless your in the trade of doing carpeting and lining all day your never going to do a good job and it's the first thing people will see when they look in your van. I would rather fit the units myself if they are prepared to supply the units flat pack in a kit. I'm more than at home doing basic plumping and electrical work having fitted relays, solar charging and gas heating in my current van.

I don't mind travelling to a good company as I don't mind travelling a long way to get the right van. If you get a good deal its worth the journey.

Bumping this thread, as I'm quite tempted by one of Clearcut's designs. Is there anybody out there who's had work done by Clearcut since the last post or who may be new to the forum and can advise on the quality and reliability of their work? I'm happy with the opinions of the DIY provision but need a little more than that if I'm to contact them. As has been said, 'tain't a cheap business doing a conversion....and our van is only 8 months old. Thanks, folks.T:

Thanks, Dazza. That helps. Lots of guys seem to get their kit from Clearcut but I've still to meet anybody who's had their conversion done in full. Think I'll pay them a visit and take a look at some of their work. They have one particular config that I haven't seen anywhere else.

Hi

I have my 60 plate T5 panel van facelift booked in next week for a variation of the 'Spacesaver Plus' conversion with Clearcut conversions in Devon. They have been very helpfull so far and I like the look of their work. A friend of mine has the Mini Tourer conversion on a T5 and it is very good.

I'd be happy to feed back in three weeks when I get my van back on the whole deal if you have any questions. They seem flexible and reasonably priced.

Cheers

Just looking back through this, having read various threads on converters in Devon this week. To finish it off, after my queries last year, we had our unique conversion done to our spec. by Clearcut and are over the moon with it. Nothing hidden, no surprises. Even visited partway through, sat in it, changed our minds about a few things and have taken it back to them since then to have the Eberspacher fitted. Thanks, Richard, Lee and the rest of the guys at Clearcut. Great job!T:

Hi
Anyone had a conversion done recently by Clearcut? I'm really interested in their SCA roof but it's a long way to go from Cardiff! Thanks
