Really need a code reader or VCDS to check what's brought the light on.

 

Mines flashing at the moment and according to VCDS it's beacause the brake pedal switch is faulty. That's on a2.5 2006.

 

Had the same on a golf, there may be two switches on your brake pedal.

 

Thanks - I contacted my local VW dealer in Loughborough but they were unable to help as they don't cover commercial vehicles. The guy did advise me to give it a good run to regen the DPF. travel at 50mph or more for over 20 minutes.
The van normally gets used for small runs to/from work through the lanes for 5 miles or so. Maybe this will work?
If not i'll take to the nearest Dealer that covers commercials (Leicester or Nottingham)

 

No harm in trying.
I think you have to have it revving at about 3k for that 20 mins on the motorway.

I had this last year...i thought it was glow plugs....its not i was told...that warning light is a general warning.
Mine was the EGR valve.£450.00.
I decided to get both the egr and dpf turned of when i found out a replacement DPF would cost £1600.00

You are correct Martin the brake switch is dual circuit. I got a new brake switch for under 20 quid from Km's online and that stopped the coil light flashing.

 

Had this 3 days ago.
Flashing engine management light but also went into limp mode.

VW diagnosed a faulty EGR cooler and replaced as it was still under das auto warranty.

 

Managed to make it into the nearest Commercial Dealer (Beeston/Nottingham) - £90+Vat to plug in for diagnostics isn't cheap!

Very helpful though - they suggested faulty EGR which could be cleaned by a spray from Halfords into the air intake. Going to try that in case it sorts it

 

What code did the diagnostic kit show?
What engine is in your T5, and what mileage?
I had a similar issue on my T5.1 2.0tdi and it was a DPF sensor which was £120

 

The glow plug light is used instead of the red engine block warning for anything the ECU does not get a correct signal from ( ie faults that are less serious than those that will damage the engine). The most common fault is the brake light switch. Easy to check.....see if you have any brake lights....or they could even be permanently on. Both faults are caused by a faulty brake light switch. Replacement is simple and takes a bout 10 minutes provided you get the right switch. Cost from GSF is £8.
