Hi all,

I have just been told by 2 VW specialists that my new Van a 13 plate T5.1 can only be lowered by 30mm on Eibach springs. I have also had a couple of quotes come back and they will lower it 40mm. So a couple of questions:

* Can I lower it more than the 40mm? If so what springs are people using, (apparently H and R don't recommend any of their springs.)

* Will a 30mm drop make much of a difference to appearance, does anyone have any pictures they could show me?

Bit confused by the conflicting information but want to make sure the correct springs will be fitted.

Thanks.

Ring Merseyspeed, speak to a guy called Alex. He know what's what and will give sound information. If you decide to buy anything their prices quoted are delivered prices and will be next day. Merseyspeed are on the forum too. 01744 889046. They sold me my springs and bearings.

I have a 13 plate t5 and Merseyspeed supplied 40mm H&Rs and they make a noticeable drop, great ride and much flatter in the corners.

After

Give them a call, very helpfulT:

Mine only came down on 30mm springs but it looks lower than that. I like it, it looks much better, it handles better and isn't too bumpy.

There is no such thing as a vw specialist he couldn't get a job anywhere else
You can go as low as 90 mm but it's bumpy I dropped 55 mm and cannot notice any ride difference
The problem is also hindered by designer names
I bought a full set of springs for 140 quid on e bay they are perfect
Ironically when I removed the vw springs one was cracked
Life is a chance so take one
Hope this helps

I have a 5.1 T32 LWB and need to lower it at least 40mm.
Are we saying it can't be done on the T32?
I really need to get it lowered, it's that high I get a nose bleed every time I climb in.....LOL:

Any help would be greatly received.

I might be wrong on this so don't treat it as gospel, but my understanding is that the Eibach lowered springs only go as far as 30mm drop. As they are used by VW they are classed as OE - this might be why you were originally told that 30mm was the limit. However, other spring makers do bigger drops, though there might be a question mark over the quality of ride you will get if you try to go too low on just lowered springs.

The other option, particularly if you want to go lower and still have decent ride quality, is coil overs, for which there are lots of different makes of varying quality and price.

Have I got that right? :*

There should be no reason why a T5.1 can not go as low as a normal T5, the suspension units are basically exactly the same.
As for lowering with just springs, you could take 5 vans, 5 sets of identical springs, and each van will have different results from the before and after.
If all 5 van were brand new it should be similar but with different mileages, worn suspension set ups, worn bottom rubbers on the rear etc, we have had vans come in were the back end is lower to start with, as the spring is sagging, the spring has cut through the rubber etc,a set of 35mm springs and a new set of rubber mounts has put the van up 10mm, not the result you want for the customer.
