Just driving along and my top water light has come on. Topped it up as it was raining, and carried on.
Next day light comes on again. Just had a quick look on top and everything looks ok.
After looking underneath there is coolant dripping from the back of the engine, towards the passages side.
Before I try to delve deeper and get the van in the air after work, any ideas or comman issues?

Thanks

There's a plastic water flange on the side of the head that's prone to warping or crumbling, if that leaks it tends to go over the gearbox and backwards.
Hope for a dry day so you can investigate!

also, do keep an eye on any pressure in the header tank when cold. Early HG failure can start to force coolant out of weakened parts - sorry.!

Just had a quick shimmy under and from the angle I was at I couldn't see the piece is it directly on the top of the gearbox?
Anyone got a picture of it? I'm tempted just to take it to the garage

It says it is not for my van anyway. I would generally use Europarts. But that's cheap enough If I can find where it is.

Is this piece accessable from above or below the engine?
If from above do you need to remove intercooler pipes and inlet manifold?

I have a 1.9 axb and removed expansion tank and top right hand intercooler pipe (looking from front of van top) you cannot see the housing you can only feel it or have a look with a mirror and torch
A bit of a pain but was only 30mins work

Ah I see, thanks for that info. Gives me more confidence to give it a go myself. I think it will wait until the weekend when I have more time. Do you remember what fixings they were?

Looking at were the water is pooling it certainly makes sense this is the fault, so want to get everything ready.

4 bolts on housing off top of my head i think they where 11mm
I can check my Haynes manual later and see what it says 👍
If you don't already have a set you need to get a set of remote action hose clip pliers as would be much harder without a set

Remote action pliers? Never head of them. I will look into that.
Oh and I will invest in a Haynes manual too.

Thanks again.

One on order! Just had a little strip down as I lost all my water!

All I could see was this item, it looks like it maybe the issue. Looks like it has a sensor attached, is this what you were thinking of?
