Just preparing myself to install my roof lining lights and need to know what the existing wires to the courtesy lights do. I have tested them and I have a brown (earth) red (12v live) and a brown/white (12v live) .
Why are there 2 12v lives going into each light (ignition off) and the earth going into the lights is earthed even with doors shut, so how do the pin switches on doors work ? I thought that when they earthed out the lights came on, but the lights seem to have a permanent earth to them anyway.
Any ideas.

The live you are seeing is the permanent live on the other side of the bulb. (like a circuit:D)

The brown and white is not a live wire it is the switched earth for the interior lights.
