Not sure if this should be here on in bodywork, but this it's suspension related.

Has anyone seen this before? I had the battery out this weekend to charge after the lights got left on for a few days.

Looks like the body work has split around the where the strut comes up to the top mount?

Slightly closer look.

The other side looks like the same thing is happening but not as bad. Any ideas what could cause it. Is it terminal? Can I drive with it like that? I'm meant to be going on Holiday on Sunday and not sure if I'll get a garage to sort it by then?

TIA

It's probably a metal fatigue fracture due to constant stress from van loads, bumpy roads, speed bumps etc.
Corrosion could have helped it fail too if it is rusty under there.
Its fixable by welding a strengthening plate around it or by cutting out and replacing that panel, but it's not going to be a quick or cheap job.
You might get a garage to weld some plates in as a temporary fix but that's up to you.
Garages should really do it properly or it comes back to them if an accident happens.

I've never seen that happen before on a van but have seen it on old cars, namely mk2 escorts. Very common repair to be done on those.

This bit doesn't look great either

looks like it needs to go to a body shop for some major surgery to me.

Yeah, does not look great. Took it to a body shop yesterday and they’re gonna send me a quote for cutting out the old turrets and welding in new ones. I’m really gutted because I’m halfway through converting it to a camper and I’ve sunk quite a lot of money into it. We’ll see what they come back with on the quote.
Looks like I won’t be getting windows anytime soon though...
