Picked up a juicy crack in my windscreen from a flying motorway stone.

i've got windscreen cover on my insurance but if the screen is coming out i'd like to get any rust treated at the same time, 2 birds 1 stone and all that.

if i get the windscreen done on my insurance (which i probably will have to due to cost), can i get the replacement refitting delayed to allow for a body shop to clean up and treat any rust that may be hiding?

anyone done this before or gone this route?

My body shop is sorting it all out for me.

As said they take the screen out and then do the rust etc... A lot of windscreen companies wont refit the windscreen until the rust is done.

If it is one of the main windscreen fitters that come out to your house, they won't delay putting the windscreen back in, or at least they didn't with me.

They said it had to be replaced the day they take it out because of their insurances or some other technical garble that makes you say "ok".

Depending on who is doing the work, you might be able to.

You could take your van to a workshop that is willing to treat the rust, get them to remove the windscreen etc, then you only need the windscreen fitters to come to the premises and fit a windscreen without taking the old one out? That might work.

I decided to take the hit and pay the difference between my windscreen excess and the cost of the new screen so that I could take it to a specialist I trust, where I arranged for them to let me treat the rust bubbles near the seams for an hour or two after the old screen was out, before they fitted the new one. The rust was only superficial though, and they started getting a bit impatient in the end, so hurried me a bit.

Who's doing the work for you? Somewhere in North Devon?
G and S autotech at Chivenor near Barnstaple. Their work is exceptional. I've seen lots of their work its amazing.

They get every bit of rust out of the screen surround as obviously you don't want it coming back in 12 months. and the spraying is awesome.

Can't recommend them enough.

I may have to make a phone call to insurance company to say I need a screen, but they'll liase with the windscreen firm as to remove and refitting.

Do you need a scren company, bodyshop can remove screen, carry out the repair and fit the screen for you can't they?

My Brother used them recently (not T4) and was pretty happy with their work. Yes you may note I'm in Essex, but he lives in Fremington!

I just get bodyshop to do it all, they invoice insurance and then you just pay the excess.

I'm fussy as I only have genuine windscreens too, never had a problem!

Obviously a quick chat with your insurance company first though.:D
