I joined POF last year..

OMG.

lets just say if I ever went online dating again, it would be one of the more respectable sites, ideally with a 'psycho nutters' filter.

Not the easiest site to actually come off of, either!

I like the concept, but POF is not a place I would go back to.

One of my mates met 'biro girl' as he called her, on POF.

I'll leave the rest up to your imagination haha

I met my wife on match about five years ago, I did a couple of sites and found it to be by far the best.

The thing is I have never been the type to pick women up in a bar as to be honest, I simply suck at it! Rasp: I found I was able to find women that interested me, good looking professional types. I found the trick is to not take it too seriously. Send a few emails, get chatting and if she is boring/weird or we just don't click I would just say a polite no thanks and move on.

To be fair it sounds like she needs to hear a bit of tough love. :*

Will use a dating site, but refuses to pay for one ? If pride gets in the way then more fool her.

Match is something like 60 quid for 3 months. Hardly bank breaking and reputedly the top site in the UK.

60 quid for new experiences (as there will be some!) possibly new friends and possibly a new bloke as a result.

If not, then in 3 months you are the cost of a good night in the pub down and a lot chalked up to experience.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Perhaps she needs to rethink what she think she is paying for. Instead of 'I'm not paying to get a date' Think 'I am paying for a platform that will help me expand my social circle with people I choose because I know a bit more about them' and will weed out a lot of the pond scum that will only frequent a free site.

You could look at mysinglefriend.com if you want to help

Or the other side of the coin is that she is chomping for you mate and hopes the sob story will switch you over I:
I gave that a bit of thought and suggested maybe I could manage two wives like them Mormon & Arab fellas. I think she meant to thank me for my kind offer and that she'd give it some consideration, but it didn't come out quite like that

WHS.

Plenty of email chat first- could be for a few weeks. if emails remain interesting then its worth meeting up - but have a lunch meeting as they are nice and short and alcohol doesnt have to be a factor. Another meet can soon be arranged if the first one went well. GEtting out of a evening meet can be tricky.

We have been married nearly 8 yrs, we met on dating direct and there were plenty of no go's on there

Alan, she will need to work on a really good profile designed to attract the man she really wants. Tell her paying is the best way to go as it removes a lot of the chaff from the off.

I hope she gives it a go, make some simple rules and stick to them

What she could write her own name??
They met up. Ended up spending the night together.

She had a pencil case with her, and demanded he draw on her with her biros whilst on the job LOL:

I'd love to link to the thread, but it's on a private forum on another owners club :)

Look van, I was giving things from my point of view. That was my experiance of the site, and yes like you said, on the first meeting it would normally only be for a cup of coffee and nothing else. There is no need to be rude about it if I have said something you don't agree with.

This thread scares me.
What happened to old fashioned dating?
Me & the missus were talking about this recently. We met in a pub when she got endless credit at a faulty jukebox & I saw an opportunity to help her choose some free tunes that I liked. A shared love of music and a coincidence of mutual friends helped seal the deal. Fast forward 30 years and traditional pubs are becoming a distant memory. Most are geared towards serving cheap food to families to incompetent or lazy to cook for themselves and are not really places for single people to meet any more.

I'm glad I'm not single, I'm not ashamed to admit I wouldn't know where to start.

I recommend socialist dating dot com. Great site full or decent socialist types.

On the other end of the scale is raving right wing relationship dot org but I've heard that one's a bit iffy. A: :D
