Does anyone declre their engine tuning/mods/chips with their insurance company?

I guess people may be a little cagey about answering that one, but if no one replies I guess that gives me my answer.

I enquired with my broker about having some tuning etc and they said they wouldn't insure it if I had the work done, and nor would any of the 50 other insurers they use, as I already have seat and window modifications. This seems a bit strange and there must be hundreds of specced up vans on the road.

So either lots of people are running vans illegally, which seems a bit pointless, or their is an insurer that I've not heard of.

I declare ALL mods - no matter how small (even stickers) as otherwise, should the worst happen, then the insurance WILL NOT pay out!!

Personally, I have no time for those that try to dodge on paying the proper insurance by not declaring stuff, as there's already enough uninsured vehicles on the road...... :(

Any decent insurer will insure basic engine mods - try one of the VW specialists (HIC, Adrian Flux, Brentacre, etc) and I can't see you having an issue :)

Yep, Brentacre seem really good and accept all mods, even PP. As soon as I'd finished the remap I phoned them and they just adjusted my policy (admittedly for a fee!). The other good thing is that you actually get to speak to a "real person" who knows a bit about cars & vans... Good luck.

Decalred and legal is the only way to be - you already have a list of insurers that will cover PP.

Add HIG to the group.

Ok thanks folks. I was going to leave my T4 engine unmodded, but now I'm going to get some quotes in from these guys you mention. My instinct was that it would be a hugely bad idea to have anything undeclared on the van, as it is I have my current window and seat mods declared. Glad people concur.

Brentacre, Shield, HIC, Adrian Flux - all good with modded vehicles T:

Im with Brentacre now - great service, the guy I dealt with has V-dubs so knew the score. Couldnt be happier, although it could be cheaper, as a 26 year old with zero no-claims and 2 incidents in 5 years, and a south manchester post code! LOL:
