Can't see why it'd need one as you'll run the engine, sub-frame and fuel tank very aground before you smack the rear diff

Just seems that the diff is very open to knocks. I've just spent time reconditioning it so don't want it to get whacked by a rock. :cool:

So you'll be familiar with the outside casing then. Has it been whacked thus far?

My bellypan, sub frame and sump bear numerous scars...as do the rear outboard trailing arm mounts on the chassis.

But the trailing arms and diff are merely a little scuffed (like it has been for a long swim in a sea of pot scourers). The 'worst' damage in that area is the way the driveshaft balancer forward of the VC fills up with rocks that get in past the rubber plate. I had to break a couple with a masonry drill once to get them out...
