Hi all, since Iv been using it for over half a year and it has performed well that I thought Id post a picture of my double din install in my T4 (Also as I have taken lots of advice from others in the past).
The issue of double din has come up a few times in past with the solution either being cut into the bulkhead, cut two of the fans off or use a single din unit with either pull out screen or thin double din screen. My worry was the single din units I found online were cheaper units and may not perform as I had hoped. I managed to find a Sony unit, XAV-AX100 with reasonable output wattage for sound and with Android Auto, the critical thing for me.
The install was simple enough, It's a single din head unit, with a double din screen that sits flush into the dash. there is no adjustment of the screen on the unit i.e. tilt etc. I cut the shipped double din audio cage to go around the bulkhead with two slots hacksawed into the audio cage, no modification to the bulkhead. Dremmel'd off the utterly useless storage compartment from the face panel on and above the heater fans, pushed the stereo in til it clicked and used the sony surround to get the below finish. It's not the the most ideal location as you have to look down a little, but voice commands work very well both ways. A small plugged in microphone went around the windscreen and I've got it by the rear view mirror. I haven't installed a reverse camera yet but it takes a feed from that too. Overall I have been very impressed.
Its jet black when off and doesnt stand out from a security point of view IMO.
Android auto works really well, my phone plugs in and charges, I have voice activated dialing, navigation, spotify for music and of course the google assistant. If I ever drive to work it predicts your destination based on time i.e. monday 7am it always says "As usual, there is little traffic on your route to work". Which always makes me smile given I moved to Sweden from Central London... Hope it helps anyone thinking about an install.
