drilling through the chassis

I am making holes in the floor to secure my seat rails. Most holes have gone through fine and I have some through the cross members - where the floor is rivetted to the cross members. Now I have 2 brackets on the rail where I have drilled through but have hit the main chassis steel. Can I continue and drill through?? If I can do I keep going all the way thru and buy a very long bolt to go thru the whole steel? Or can I tap a threaded hole and use my bolt?

Any advice would help as I want these rails to be secure.

thanks,

Oh well there goes that idea. I have got the front part of the seat rail thru the proper points at the front only there is 1 set of brackets that fall over the chassis box section so I wanted to know if i could drill thru them. As you say I shouldnt - does this provide a weak point then? Looks like I will have to remove bracket and relocate it.

thanks for the reply

Hi,

Don't give up just yet old fella, I fixed x2 VW bases in the rear for my children, with bucket seats and 3-point racing harnesses which they love and have passed MOT Testing twice now. I used the genuine spreader plates & managed to line up 3 points within the chassis which I drilled right through (but as stated they are specific areas). One of the holes is within the main box section but if you use extra long bolts they pass right through and out the other side for the spreader plat to fit.
The 3rd one (inner and front direction) clamps only to the wriggly tin - a bit pants but the other 3 are absolutely rock solid & safe.

If you want me to take so photos, give me a shout....I'll post em up for you.
