Hi all

Does anyone know if vw ever fitted eberspach heaters on there caravelle? I have just got my new van and noticed it has a large square looking thing in the engine bay right hand side which has an exhaust exiting under the passenger wheel arch. It has eberspach written on it and diesel 2000w electric 12v, looks factory fitted, there are no extra controls on the dash or in the back????????

thanks in advance

Yeah mines got one fitted. You don't turn it on and off, it comes on automatically when the ignition is on, if the outside temperature falls below a set level. This is a coolant heater not an Air heater, the idea is that the engine temperature will rise more quickly, and so the normal blower will work quicker too, with an added bonus of reducing engine wear.

You can mod it to work when you tell it to (even on a timer), but you need to circulate the water for it to be effective, so either by having the engine running or with auxillary pump. The general feeling is that they don't make good overnight heaters, you will be much better in the long run buying another Eber like a D2 Airtronic, that will be more efficient and effective... If you want overnight heat that is!!

Hope this helps
