great guide, did mine this morning, looked just like all the others pictured here, one question though, did anyone else get like a smell of burning after the job, im sure its nothing, just the stuff getting through the valve after being clogged for so long, the allen bolts are hard to get tight ,seems like a bit of seepage out of the valve, hope the o ring doesnt need to be replaced....any thoughts, and thanks again for the guide.T:

As has been asked earlier, is this a DIY job on the 2.0 BiTdi newwer model deisel?

I have a 2011 van that my wife uses as the school run bus. The engine management light is on and I bought a VCDS diagnostic cable and it shows that there is an EGR fault and to book into service.....This concept is a bit alien to me (booking into service, that is), but I do not want to up the wife's motor.

I just stuck my head under the bonnet and jeepers, what a tight fit for anything (I am used to a tdi landrover being bad enough).

I guess the first step is to get the Elsawin discs off ebay or similar? Where do I even find what needs cleaning? Is is two hour or weekend job?

Any guidance woudl be helpful (please explain as if to a child! Landrovers I can cope with as used to meccano!)

Thinking of doing this on my 2.5TDI engine, but I have a feeling the EGR is under the engine. Am I correct?

Had issues with the Coil Light and Error code PO299, stating Underboost condition. Its done a healthy 107k mile on the clock, got it in November, and its been an issue since I purchased it through a local auction house. Bad move!

I wish I had got a 1.9 TDI, they seemed a lot more reliable!

In the mean time I am going to get some Diesel Cleaner Additive from EuroPart and drive like a mad italian with chasing Mafia, to see if that helps.

Attached picture of engine bay, in case some one like to put a large arrow pointing to the EGR, with the appropriate caption. Here, dumb ass!

Hi, if you follow the boost pipe from the right hand side of the inter cooler the egr is the first thing you come to. At the front of the engine bay just right of the bonnet catch. It is between the rubber pipe and the alloy pipe. 3 bolts and one jubilee clip. I took the smaller silver pipe off as it made it easer to remove the bottom bolt.......
If you drop anything you will need to remove your under tray to get it back. Good luckT:

Hi

Tried to clean the EGR value to day on my 2.5 TDI and looking at the pictures above it does look like a BCP engine.

I took the cover off the EGR value, only to find that it is the top of the value and I think the electric bits that tell the value to move. I am think the actual valve is the large pipe. A slightly more complex task. I think, unless I am not looking at the EGR value.

I am wondering if this oil is affecting the value moving when it should. The engine light is now only coming on when the its cold, but as soon as its reached its running temperature. I can stop the engine, start again the its disappeared. The ECU is not recording any fault this time. Strange but true!

If anyone out there, can advise what I should do next. Greatly appreciated.

See pictures below.

Cheers

Hi Rob
Yes thats the egr valve inside will be black. U need to remove black flex pipe on the right then egr cooler pipe at the bottom with star allen key very fiddly try not to drop anything, then remove three bolts on the left u might need new o rings and seal WHT002223 1off WHT002224 1off 069131547D 1off about fifteen pounds from tps got mine just haven't had time to do it. Hope this helps Col

Thanks Col, will get the parts when I have time.

Funny enough using the van today, I could smell fumes in the cabin and I have had P0229 errors over the past 5 months. Turbo Under boost.

Have got a sensor changed, as I was told it was faulty (according to garage).

Once this sensor was changed, the engine has been more reliable. I now only get the dreaded coil light when the engine is cold, once it gets to running temperature. I can switch off the engine and I never get the light come back on.

I have been using an Italian tuning specialist (heavy right foot) and fuel additive! The engine is running smoother. T:

I obviously have a leak somewhere. Although, the garage could not see it, when they changed the sensor at the same time.

With it being 2.5 its not exactly easy to inspect pipes!

Cheers and thanks for your help.

Cheers for the reply.

Its a 2007 2.5 TDI, unsure of what type of engine it actually is. BNZ perhaps?

Not sure how to find out to be honest.

The EGR is covered in oil, so wondered if a crafty mechanic designed to hide a fault before the owner sold it.

Does anyone have a photo of the layout of these engines. Its pretty hard to envisage what things are, when most of the stuff is hidden away.

Which I had a ramp!

Cheers and thanks.
