she went in for her first (for me) service today and had a good looking over. looks like shes had a side door incident at some point, it's been resprayed and there's a dent in the B pillar but other than that she got a clean bill of health. must admit i've been holding off thinking about stuff unti lit had had a once over, but now it's game on.

also, got introduced to the wonders of kufatec. they do a cruise control kit that i can fit without having to change my clocks, steering wheel and stereo. which is good because highline clocks are ÂŁ1k + vat!

His videos could easily be half the length if he just actually got to the point.
I find that with quite a few YouTubers, bit too much waffle.

My pet hate is the sponsorship waffle halfway through. Although I guess if you are Y.T full timer it has to pay the wage.

And believe me once you get reasonably high subscribers and high views it REALLY pays.

For example top earner MrBeast made $54 million in 2022 alone, even more now! 🤑

The money in it is lunacy, my 7 year old went through a youtube phase and it was horrendous, the majority of them are just bad humans. And yes the 'this video is sponsored by squarespace' gets really boring really quickly. Made me think maybe I should do some kind of video log but like an anti video log where it's just all my mistakes and a tonne of swearing. Doubt I'll get any free stuff!

Got a bunch of useful information from in-between the nonsense though like the brackets for bed supports from nwcc and stuff, so not a complete waste of time!

OK, she's booked in for window fitting and a roof vent! Hopefully mid Feb. I know people do this stuff themselves and make it look easy but the thought of cutting a massive hole in my van scares me to death (especially after last time and that didnt involve cutting holes) so farming this out. Roof vents aren't cheap eh?
Important first step done, or at least started. Can feel a silent coat order coming on now. Need to dig out my roller. Back to work next week so will have that magical thing they call 'time'

Yeah one of those.

Anyone savvy with crafter/newer transporter head units?
I've noticed alot of the vehicle management stuff is done via the stereo, does this mean I can't just replace the head unit with an aftermarket?

80 sheets of dodo deadn matt Pro (PRO I TELL YOU!) currently sat in the back of the van. Wind deflectors cab matt and seat covers on their way from vanstyle, will be good to make a start next week. Thankfully mostly funded through the sale of lego and f1 tat I had laying around.
Hit a bit of a stumbling block on the cruise control front, kufatec will supply stalk but not coding. Working on it!

The stalk and throttle pedal are worth diddly without the dongle....

The coding takes seconds with the right dongle, otherwise it's main agent and many of them will not do the coding unless they fit the bits. I would offer to send you my dongle but it's a single use item, it links to your VIN and can be used to re programme if something fails but cannot be used with anything other than the original vehicle

Found this on the evilbay though.

Mine now works really well, though I have not worked out how to set the speed limiter, yet. Could be some hours of innocent fun there.

Not sure on the new shape crafters but fitted cruise to my 2012 2.5 MWB by buying and fitting the stalk kit and throttle pedal off flea bay then booking it into VW commercials in Coventry to talk to Germany. Cost me £75 at dealer in 2018. Had to go with the usual health check c**p telling me it needed £2ks worth of other work which I declined and 60,000 miles later it still hasn’t needed but otherwise def worth doing.
It’s worth noting if you have an auto it doesn’t need the throttle pedal changing as it already has the extra wiring for kick down.

Yeah the new shape and old shape are different systems unfortunately as new one uses that radar stuff for adaptive cruise control. If the kufatec route comes to a dead end I'll bin it off as its not the end of the world, there are companies that retrofit the proper system but I'd need highline clocks (ÂŁ1k + vat fitted and coded), mfsw (ÂŁprobably not cheap) and a fancier stereo (ÂŁalso not cheap). I want it, but I don't want it that bad

As the title suggests, progress has been predictably slow. Just coming to the end of my second pack of dodo deadn matt, will probably need another one. Transporters are way easier in this regard, in crafters its all fiddly with panel supports in the way and all sorts, but I'm getting there.
A long thought lost parcel arrived today of vanstyle tat so I got my wind deflectors in (because, is it really a camper if it doesn't have wind deflectors) and started the process of getting rid of chrome. Anyone know what can be done with that chrome strip at the top of the grille? That's gotta go. Other than that some cheap seat covers and a cheap quite frankly horrid cab matt

But some good news, my window guy has been in touch so windows and roof vent booked in to be fitted next week! Very exciting!

Other than that I'm loving it. Being able to stand up in the morning is an absolute joy.

Nice update! Windows will make a big difference. Looking forward to seeing more soon. (y)

3 things I always hear from folk upgrading from a Transporter to Crafter either in person or on YT etc.
  1. Standing height
  2. Fixed bed
  3. Shower / toilet
My mate has just bought a bare bones 72 plate LWB Crafter in Indium Grey, 12K on the clock for this very reason.

It's now gone to the converters for a full Swamper style conversion, ready by mid April. ÂŁ70K budget inc van.

This is his T5.1 coming up for sale in a month or so to help fund it....

Lovely camper, everything high end: Full interior conversion, Hi Lo roof, Pendle, Bilsteins, Espercher, 350w solar on roof, Vango Kela air awning etc etc
