Hi
l believe that most vans only come with a insurance cat2 alarm and most people up grade to a cat1system,but dont quote me.
All the vans that i have had have all been upgraded for extra protection.

Hope this helps

Cat2 is an immobiliser so most people go for 2 to 1 upgrade which takes it to
a full cat 1 so has your got an alarm or only immobiliser

Ive been looking into this, thought i had an alarm, having the flashing light etc.. but sure its just got an immobiliser.
Dont think many come with an alarm from new.

If it has siren is normally under wiper plastic trim
In a stainless steel box in the centre. Some vans have a basic alarm without interior sensors. If you have the full alarm you will have sensors mounted in the module above the rear view mirror.

and if you look around for a 2 to 1 alarm expect to pay around 220 to 245 fitted with a cert for fitting to insurance std

I have no idea if my T5 [2004] has an alarm. The bloke I bought it off said it did but I see no evidence of it . There are no internal movement sensors that I can see, and its never gone off by accident [unlike all the alarms on my previous vehicles]

Do they all have an alarm or what??

On my order for a new van, the Thatcham Cat 1 alarm was an option. I ticked yes but would I be looking at additional methods to keep it safe?

Yes keyguard is a good product although only immobilises one circuit unless you do it via a relay
But has no led which makes it hard to find which has got to be a plus I have fitted loads of these
along side trackers on agricultural machinery so would definitely recommend it

Autosparks was bang on
Basically the best way is to upgrade the existing remote locking with a box and some sensors
This way you don't need an extra fob
Plus you get an insurance rated alarm
VW recommend Cobra

If I wanted to steal you van I would
kick down your front door and take your keys
This renders alarms useless which is why
we sell few alarms but many many Cobratracks
fitted from £299 + VAT nationwide
This way you at least know where the van is after

It's a double edged sword though. If you have the tracker and no alarm you have no alert when some scum bag is inside your van unloading your goodies. To be totally secure you really need both.

Of course.
So many people have tools in vans I guess.
Alarm is just peace of mind

WHat I have been searching for I have never found
A 3 G alarm with a camera
Matter of time before one is on market
That way the alarm would email you pictures of who is in your car
Technology is there already

There was such a thing available. I'll see if I can find if it's still available. I think the cops used them for a while in their "sting" vehicles.
