Im about to line my panels which include the roof and walls.

I have used 4mm ply and stretchy carpet from MVM.

Obviously i cant use the OEM grey rubbish clips as they are too short now, so from threads ive seen on here, people are using MVM fir tree clips, question is:

Why are there 2 types:

1.) Roof clips
http://www.megavanmats.com/apps/webstore/products/show/957862#

2.) Panel Clips
http://www.megavanmats.com/apps/webstore/products/show/1875458

Now the reason for my question is as they have sold out of the roof clips, so why cant i use the panel clips for the roof?

Are they not the same besides the colour, and who cares what the colour is if they are hidden?

My last question is the centre strip which connects the 2 roof panels. Do the normal clips work, or do i need to invest in more clips for this too. Does anyone have a link for where longer ones are avaliable (if required)

Sorry for another carpeting thread!

The reason for the different clips is the holes in the origanal boards are different sizes. The roof boards have larger holes than the side panels.
Also most people use thinner materials for the roof so the head on the roof clip is thinner so they dont show through the fabric.

Cheers Mark,

As im using 4mm ply on both the roof and sides, can i not get away with using the side ones for the roof, or is it worth waiting till more stock comes in?

Hi I used 4mm ply for my roof panel and bought the longer fir tree clips from mvm, but they are a night mare to fit as they are meant to be used with the original roof panels which are thinner and have larger holes than the side panels. I could not get them to sit tidy and had to use a hand plane to reduce the thickness of the ply around the holes to get them to go in.

If I were you I would use the Vw roof panels or by 3.6mm ply I think it is, or you are going to have a nightmare trying to use these clips as they pull out because the ply will not curve to the van ceiling shape and they show through the linning. Dont get me wrong the clips are great they just dont work well with 4mm ply.

Hope this helps any questions just ask cheers TD6

Depends on whether you want to remove the roof in the future.

If I could do mine again I would use self tappers cutting a 1cm cross in the carpet.

It really is surprising how well it covers over.

It’s cheap and it works well.

I done it on my second roof mount and was a bit doubtful if it would work, but it works that well when I needed to take it down I couldn’t find the screws.

I also did it on the strips that go across and it works well.
