Hi All - I'm looking for some advice please.

I've just had the tyres on my Galaxy replaced, and didn't like the way they treated my alloy's - so with the front brakes squealing on the T4, I think I'd rather do it myself and preserve my wheels.

The thing is, it's been a few years since I've changed any brake components - I think the last work I did on brakes was on a 1972 Ford Escort !!

We have a 1999 1.9TD, so I don't think I have ABS to contend with, but I'm presuming that as the setup is pretty basic not a lot will have changed between the '72 Ford and '99 VW. Is this correct ??

Also, having browsed a few posts, I see mention of a wind back tool. I can guess what this does, but is it only necessary for the rear brakes ??

Any other advice anyone wants to give me ??

Thanks

Frank

yup you only need to wind the rears back

This is to stop the piston being pushed back in when the handbrake is applied.

Just use anything to push the fronts back, lever, G clamp big grips etc...

Hi - just changed the front brake pads - must be the easiest job I've ever done !!!

The hardest part was getting the wear indicator connection apart.

Hopefully the squeal will be history now.
