MOT tester picked up a leaking front shock, are these supposed to be changed as a pair or singular? Just asking as the dealer who I bought it from last year in June and carried out the MOT said that they would replace it FOC after I highlighted that I had only had it for 6 months.

Technically by the book they should be changed as a pair, different aged shocks can have a bit of imbalance plus if one had gone good chance the other might be on it's way out but in practice you can just replace one and 99% of the time it'll be fine.

I'd argue that you need 2 if the dealer is doing it for you F.O.C but I wouldn't push it too far as they are being very reasonable and could decide not to do it at all!!

all car dealers have to warranty against significant defects for 6 months from purchase (unless its under about £2k). Law has been changed a while back to protect consumers cos used vehicles are such a dodgy trade.
