does anyone have this problem, some times ive got what i think is the rite amount of fuel in the tank then look down a minute later n ive then got half of what i had before then another minute later im on red then bout 5 minutes later ive got what i think i should have in the tank again, its abit annoying trying to guess how much fuel you have all the time

It's a common faul and the dash cluster will need to come out and a couple of joints resoldered there is a thread about it with pictures of the bits to repair

yes mine does exactly the same.

It could be the solder on the back of the instrument cluster as its a common fault but my van is only 2002 so sceptical about this...

sadly i dont know the answer but would be interested to see replies..

I had this fault on my 2002 2.5 TDI, it was the connector on the tank sender unit, you can get to it by removing the plate under the passenger seat. Mine just needed the contacts cleaning and it works fine now. the later clocks are different to the ones shown in the VW books thread.
